Littman Brands’ Brighten the World initiative focuses on enriching individual lives around the globe by giving back to the community at large. While we at Troy Lighting believe that success is a product of determination and vision, we also know it takes a measure of good fortune. That is why we are dedicated to using our success and resources to extend the benefits of good fortune to those in need. We embrace and commit to participation in philanthropic causes that bring comfort and care to vulnerable members of our society, across not only the United States, but also the world.



The Mikko Suspended Light Sculpture

The MIKKO suspended light sculpture launched Littman Brands’ Brighten the World Campaign to benefit The Wilson Foundation. The Wilson Foundation was established in 1997 to address the needs of disadvantaged and under-served children. Most of their work is focused in Limpopo Province, South Africa, an area devastated by extreme poverty, unemployment, substandard education and extreme HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis pandemics that have left a staggering number of orphans and other vulnerable children in their wakes.

Inspired by modular Origami folds and co-designed by May Poon, the MIKKO architectural hanging light sculpture is a dynamic work of art and movement in contrasting forms. Each flexible aluminum body is comprised of 228 individual folds that house a single 1-watt warm LED. One form is finished in brushed aluminum, while the other is finished in gloss black with black matte accents. The folds are woven together with aircraft cable, and MIKKO’s final design is determined by strategic placement (including length, tension and location) of the cable suspension points.

“We are proud to offer this unique way to contribute to The Wilson Foundation’s cause and initiatives and have the opportunity to share and discuss our design process with Wilson Associates and this exciting campaign," said Meghan Hanley, director of sales and marketing for Troy and Corbett Lighting under Littman Brands Contract. “MIKKO is a dynamic architectural design and serves as the perfect representation of how our team can take a design concept and run with it. We were able to design, create and produce this complicated, sculptural form in our West Coast factory in less than 60 days.”

Littman Brands MIKKO was available to hotel and commercial management groups for purchase by online auction between November 8, 2015 and April INSERT DAY 2016. The estimated value of the MIKKO light sculpture was $25,000 WAS THIS THE HIGHEST BID?, with all profits donated to the Wilson Foundation.

Design on a Dime

Troy Lighting recently gave back at ELLE Decor Housing Works’ annual Design on a Dime. It’s a popular New York City design benefit held at the downtown Metropolitan Pavilion. The three-day event brought together more than 60 of the world’s top interior designers, architects and decorators to create one-of-a-kind vignettes from products donated by top design industry brands, which were then auctioned off for the charity Housing Works. Designers spent months conceptualizing their rooms and gathering donations to bring it all together in less than 24 hours for the event’s opening night.

Designer Miguel Lewis utilized a variety of Troy and Corbett designs in his creative vignette, suspending fixtures of various sizes and styles at different heights to create an illuminating installation. Corbett’s La Scala chandelier was surrounded by nine of Troy’s Mojitos, eight Porters in polished nickel and two Loz LOS? Feliz lanterns. This grouping was set against a geometric wall pattern and suspended above a golden fabric for extra warmth.

Hundreds of VIPs, designers and tastemakers attended the opening night reception, which was followed by a shopping extravaganza to auction off the designer items. Proceeds from last year’s donated items raised over $1.3 million to support Housing Works, whose mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS. This year, the money raised at Design on a Dime will benefit Housing Works’ newest supportive housing development, the Hull Street Residence in Brooklyn. This from-the-ground-up housing project will transform a vacant 6,000-square-foot lot into a beautiful and safe home for 26 single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.



Picnic By Design

Troy Lighting proudly supported DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) at their Picnic By Design in New York this summer. DIFFA’s humanitarian efforts include raising awareness and granting funds to organizations that provide treatment, direct care services, preventive education programs and advocacy for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Picnic By Design is DIFFA National’s summer celebration that highlights design, food and fun for a worthy cause. Picnic By Design brings together designers, manufacturers and artists whose work is enjoyed, celebrated and bid on by DIFFA supporters. Funds raised support their grant, which helps nonprofit organizations across the country combating HIV/AIDS. Guests are invited to sip cocktails and wine while savoring picnic fare from fabulous NYC restaurants and bidding on one-of-a-kind designer picnic baskets.
